CVIS TEACHERS, MRS. WARNER AND MRS. PETERMAN, UTILIZE TECHNOLOGY TOOLS TO ENGAGE STUDENTS AS WELL AS CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING!
This weeks feature showcases a couple of ways that technology is being used in a co-taught classroom with Jessica Warner and Kristy Peterman. On of the many apps they are using is called, Post-it Plus.
Mrs. Warner stated, "the Post-it Note app works great for taking pictures of student's exit slips. I am able to move them around within the app to put them in different categories. This helps me easily identify who still needs more help. My post-it notes also fall down all the time, so once I capture their post-it notes, I can take them down right away."
See the slide show below showing how it is done in Mrs. Warner and Mrs. Peterman's class.

Technology in learning centers!
Students in Mrs. Warner's and Mrs. Peterman's class rotate through centers working with online tools. The pictures below show the students using the Sumdog site and Study Island at two of the centers. The students were enjoying their activities. They were talking and keeping each other engaged and on task. This allowed the teachers to work one on one with smaller groups of students. Kudos to Jess and Kristy for finding ways to engage students with the technology they have available. In addition, kudos for sharing the post it plus app and how you use it to check for understanding and to make on the fly grouping changes.
Jess shared that students use the Smartboard during math rotations with the Sumdog website. It is very engaging for the students because they can solve problems on the smartboard with the use of the pen tools. Sumdog also practices Common Core and has some fun games that the students enjoy playing along with solving problems. This provides students with a different way of practicing their math skills.
Anyone who is interested in Sumdog can contact Dr. Sipe for more information.

The Epley Image
For those who don't know him Doug Epley is a 2005 graduate of Conewago Valley and the district's Network Administrator. Doug has come up with a way to update the districts computers to act like Chromebooks. This is the "Epley Image" and we are very fortunate that our students and staff get to benefit from Doug's knowledge of technology. So when you turn on that old computer and it starts up in seconds rather then minutes, you can thank Doug.
