New Builder Tool "Boards" (This is the 4th great builder tool made available to teachers)
This week we have a guest presenter.
Hi, I am Tara Walter [email protected] and I am from Southern Lehigh Middle School in Southern Lehigh School District in Center Valley, PA (near Allentown, PA). I teach FCS and have shared a few of my Discovery Education Boards with Dr. Sipe. I hope you enjoy them and that you take advantage of this great new tool available to anyone with a Discovery Education subscription.
Below are the three boards that I have shared from my district to yours. (FYI you will need to log into your DE account to see the boards. My video preview below gives you a look at each of the boards without logging in to DE.)
Chinese New Year
Fast Food Awareness
Kitchen Safety Board
I want to give a big thank you to Tara for sharing with us in this weeks blog. I loved the capability of these boards, which I see as very similar to Glogsters, except that you can embed the Discovery Education videos right into them as well as PDF's and other web-based resources and tools. If you don't have a Discovery Education account please let me know and I will provide you with the access code and instructions to set up your account. I have also added a video (below) showing you where you can go to see these boards in our district content on Discovery Education as well as where you would go withinin Discovery Education to create your own boards. Remember that all students grades 4-12 also have Discovery Education accounts and can use the Discovery Education resources for presentations and research. I have also added a gallery of the steps you would take to create your own board. These steps are also available to you in Discovery Education.

Discovery Education Techbooks
I also had the good fortune to meet a social studies teacher from the Southern Lehigh Middle School and saw how their social studies teachers are using the Discovery Education Techbooks.
Currently there are Techbooks available for K-8 Science, high school Biology, Earth and Space, Chemistry and Physics, and social studies which includes World Geography and Cultures, World History, US History I prehistory to Reconstruction, US History II Civil War to present, US History prehistory to Progressive Era, US History prehistory to present. These techbooks are developed using the 5 E's, "Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate." I thought these books were really amazing and engaging and fully developed for immediate use by teachers right down to the assessments. Below is a link for you to checkout the DE Techbooks and get a trial use. I am told a math techbook is in development and will be the next book available.
